Margaret Dore Makes a Difference in Portugal

Nancy Elliott
On May 29, 2018, Portugal’s parliament rejected a bill that would have legalized euthanasia. Prior to the vote, hundreds of people protested in front of the parliament building, carrying placards, including "Euthanasia is a recipe for elder abuse."

This prompted Nancy Elliott, Chair of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, to make the following statement:
The argument that legal assisted suicide and euthanasia "is a recipe for elder abuse," was first made by Margaret Dore.
She was also the first person who came to me (I was a New Hampshire legislator at the time) with the argument of elder abuse. The argument hit home with the legislators: You or your loved one could be abused to death.
